Introduction
This highly practical one-year course will equip you to work as a sports coach and respond to the unique demands of top level sport. You will learn how to provide and modify intermediate and advanced level sport experiences, according to the social, emotional and physical changes that occur as players develop from childhood through youth to adulthood. You will be groomed to target employment prospects in schools, clubs, government and private institutions nationally and internationally or run your own private coaching practice.

Aim of Course
Course Outcomes: • Respond to the unique demands of coaching in a South African Sporting context. • Apply an understanding of sport science in the implementation of developmentally appropriate sport programmes from childhood to adulthood. • Communicate effectively with players, colleagues, employers and parents/guardians. • Facilitate a programme of prevention, care and management of sport injuries, health and safety. • Demonstrate administrative efficiency in implementing local sports programmes. • Demonstrate a commitment to the principles of inclusion in all coaching practices, with special reference to girls/women, persons with disabilities, and other individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Course Objective
The course objective is to give you the knowledge and skills to work as a sport coach and respond to the unique demands of coaching in the South African sporting context. By the end of this one-year course you will be equipped to coach beginner and intermediate sport performers – designing practice sessions that reflect an understanding of the interdependence of fitness and skill development and sensitivity to the social, emotional and physical changes that occur as players develop from childhood through youth to adulthood. We recommend that you add additional qualifications like the National Diploma: Coaching Science so that you can enhance your employment prospects in schools, clubs, private and government institutions nationally and internationally or run your own private practice. If you add additional specialisations to your course, you can offer your clients’ more options and enhance your employment prospects.
